Private Day School Admissions

Private day schools are more popular than ever, leading to competitive admissions processes even at the kindergarten and elementary school levels.  Parents are often unsure how to evaluate schools and how to compare them against each other.  They have many questions about the admissions process that they may not be comfortable asking the school representative.

Darien Academic Advisors offers day school consulting services to students applying to kindergarten through 12th grade.  The focus is not on “getting in at all costs” or in packaging a young child to fit a school’s profile.  We try to find the best fit for a child and to help parents through the admissions process:

For Kindergarten and elementary admissions:  We help parents evaluate the schools under consideration, and show them how to compare them to their public options.  We talk with parents about what type of learner their child is, and what educational situations are most comfortable for them.  We help parents craft an effective parent statement.  We do not coach young students for “playdates” or interviews.  Consulting services at this level generally only require one meeting.

For middle school and high school applicants:  Just as stated above, we help parents evaluate schools and evaluate their own child, and help them to find a match.  With students of middle school and high school age, we also prepare them with mock interviews, assist them with essays and short answer questions, and help parents with their parent statements.  Consulting services generally require one or two meetings.
